This one is a reminder to myself to slow down. Day...who knows in Yellowstone, and I was driving around twisty windy roads as the fog was burning off, somewhat white-knuckled, because most of the animals in Yellowstone could do serious damage to our rental car if they came upon us...and this was the sunrise we were driving to. So I pulled off on the shoulder and took a deep breath and just watched the sun rise for a few minutes. // how do you stay in the moment when you travel? Comment please!

This photo, rather appropriately, was taken 3 years ago on New Year's Day, in Maui. One of my favourite places in the world. While I respect people who place an emphasis on the new year as a time to make plans, resolutions, and reflect, do better; the way that I look at it, the day to do that is every day. Regardless of what time of year. This has hammered home for me as I've gotten older and people close to me have passed. It doesn't matter when or where or how or why, there is always room and space for you to be a better you. Compassion, peace, gratitude and empathy. ↠

When I arrived I had a sinus infection, had barely slept on the 18-hour overnight train (with no sleeping car reservation) from Beijing and it was a London drizzle for most of my time there during Golden Week.
